Chalkboard writing and the holiday’s just go hand in hand. Nothing is more charming than a hand written sentiment, particularly in our modern world of texting and emoticons. Including chalkboard decor into your holiday decorating is a perfect way to add a little charm and nostalgia.
I had planned to hold off a little longer before posting anything Christmas & Holiday related but one my Pinterest pins about chalkboard prints, that I posted last year, is getting a lot of renewed attention(pictured above, click here to pin it). Hey, I don’t want to hold back anybody’s excitement, so I’ll ‘jump on the band wagon’ and give you some more information about the great company behind the pin that is creating a stir.
I came across Lily & Val somewhere along the way of pinning things ‘chalkboard’ to my pinterest boards. Of course what caught my eye immediately about some of her designs was the addition of color. The one above All You Need Is love And Christmas Cookies was added to my Make Merry With Living With Color Designs pin board in 2014. The board has 141 pins to inspire your Making Merry throughout the holidays. Be sure to pin and like a few things while you are there.
If you’re interested in trying your own hand at a little chalk board writing then you should pick up this little book from Valerie McKeehan (Val), The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering. Learn from Val as she teaches you everything you need to know to create gorgeous hand-drawn chalk designs. The book is also a practice space, with three foldout “chalkboards”—the inside cover and foldout back cover are lined with blackboard paper.
I am soooo super excited about their newest product, The Keepsake Kitchen Dairy Part recipe keeper, part journal, definitely a future family heirloom. I think my sisters and daughters would cherish one of these.
The Keepsake Kitchen Diary™ contains room for approximately 200 recipes. It is divided into six sections: Starters, Soups/Salads, Main Courses, Side Dishes, Desserts, and Miscellaneous. Each section starts with a hand-drawn illustration plus helpful cooking guides/references. Once the recipes are filled out, you will be left with an interactive family cookbook unlike any other. As you return to each recipe, use the page on the right-hand side to record the memories associated with each occasion. This page is designed to be used as a journal for recording special dates like the date you first made and tried each dish!
Wow what a great idea. Filled with chalkboard drawings and sure to be handed down for generations. A hostess dream.
You are really gonna want to check out the Lily & Val website if you are crazy about chalkboard like I am. Be sure to watch the video on their home page ‘Behind the Chalk’ and see how the artwork is created. There are also great links to their blog, product, and much more.
You can find more chalkboard inspiration on my Topography pin board and my Christmas Chalkboard Sayings pin board. I’ll continue to add to those boards so I hope you will follow along. Also keep checking back here for me to reveal my newest Holiday board ‘Make Merry With Living With Color Designs 2015’. I have had so much fun throughout the past year seeking out great pins to inspire you in your Holiday celebrations and I can’t wait to show it to you.
Thank you to Val for allowing me to use photographs of her work in my post. I emailed her many months ago about featuring her work. I thought now would be the perfect time with the released of her newest book, The Keepsake Kitchen Diary.
I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment and let me know how you incorporate chalkboard writings into your home or celebrations. – Marianne
