Nellie’s Southern Kitchen serves up great Southern food with a dash of really interesting interior design. Needless to say eating there was definitely a treat! I can thank my baby sister for this one. It is about time that she is the star of one of my post. Thank you Miss Nancy!
A date night with her husband, Charles, and another couple brought them to Nellie’s Southern Kitchen. The great Southern food and good-times-had that night led to Nancy rounding my mom, my older sister, and me up for a day trip back.
The resturant is located in Belmont NC which was a bit of a ride from here, but well worth it. Much to our delight there were plenty of cute little shops downtown to round out out trip.
Nellie’s Southern Kitchen
At Nellie’s you can count on all your favorite Southern dishes being on the menu. Amazing do-not-miss pimento cheese, biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, banana pudding and more, can satisy any appitite.
Recipies come from the matriarch of the Jonas family, Nellie Jonas. Yes, that the musically famous Jonas family that has origins right there in Belmont.
She was known for her “perfect biscuits. Her family remembers her as an incredible cook and a gracious hostess. Her greatest desire was for people to enjoy themselves around her table and on her front porch. What a fitting tribute to create a resturant in her honor.
The wait staff is delightful and eager to share all the history that is wrapped into the resturants food and interior design. If you eat there in the evenings there is entertainment with a little live music. Along with featured entertainment you might even find your waiter or waitress on stage. Job interviews come complete with a singing audition. That’s tough.
Standing watch over the resturant is the coolest painting of Nellie with includes elements referencing the life and loves of Nellie. The White dress and spool of thread refer to the years she spent working in the local cotten mill. You’ll notice a frying pan and chicken refering to her love of cooking and other elements that reflect her love of church, music, birds, pets and family.
The white chandeliers above were custom made and are carved with birds native to the local area.
A stunner of a lighting fixture establishes the bar area. The over sized cotton boll design leaves no doubt about it’s inspiration. Amazing.
Here is a fun pic of me and my sisters, Nancy and Rebecca (at the local hardware store). The beautiful silver haired lady is my dear mom, Joan. She’s opening a little surprise that Nancy got us, an Advent Devotional by Max Locado. So Sweet.
I have to show you this pic of Nancy and my handsome brother-in-law that was taken on their date night. Don’t they look great in front of the Nellie’s portrait? Love these two!
Downtown Belmont NC
Downtown Belmont has cute little shops. The ladies at GiGi’s Boutique were so much fun we felt we were part of the family by the time we left. Mother and daughter operated, this Specialty Boutique features blended upscale consignment with new boutique arrivals.
At the Happy Dog Cafe we bought perfectly decorated dog Christmas cookies. So cute. Shhh, that’s a secret. Don’t let my granddog Lilly know.
The store fronts were just darling with a cafe, cotten candy store, clothing stores and more.

I fell in love with the brown room that embraced nature and outdoors. Plenty of feathers, and owls, and acorns. The large oil painting over the mantel was amazing with rich detail and color.
Of course you know the turquoise and gold room was one of my favorites also.
